What would become Sentara Healthcare began as a 25-bed hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, founded in 1888. From these small beginnings, Sentara has grown into an integrated healthcare system with nearly 30,000 employees, 12 hospitals, and a health plans division that serves 900,000 members. It has expanded across Virginia and to North Carolina, Alabama, and Ohio, allowing Sentara to serve more communities and improve access to healthcare.
